Versions RED OFF
(2017-2018) closing of the first phase
With the field experience gained and the evaluations done during these two years of work, we realize that it’s necessary to specify even more our model. In the perspective of this project we understood from the beginning that each territory had particular needs and therefor the work has been done with a focused calendar, but in this second evaluation we also defined, that it’s not just a matter of needs or cultural identities, but also that every participating entity and locality is in a very different development stage in terms of their own management autonomous mechanisms and the mission of RED is to contribute with the strengthening of these processes.
From the meeting of local artists and the meeting of intercommunal management, it is evidenced that there are localities with a vast support team and expertise in the subject, years of bonding together with the communities, self-management of different resources (programmatical, infrastructure, economical, logistical etc.) permanent contact with local artists, a clear editorial line and a well-established mid-term deadline projection etc. other localities are in full development of these mechanisms and finally there are some that are just beginning this search.
In this context, during 2018 closure landmarks are defined with some districts and participating partners, those that have more years at RED, that have strengthened their internal management, culturally activated their territories and that have the necessary mechanisms to continue with autonomy relating to our work model. Projecting this way, opening space for new members in earlier development stages and to generate a deepening plan with mid-level localities during 2019.
Casa de la Cultura Anselmo Cádiz of El Bosque, Cultural Corporation of Melipilla, Cultural Corporation of Talagante and the Teatro Regional of El Maule are the districts and entities where the closure landmarks were executed during 2018, districts that have developed a prominent boost of their management teams and an exponential growth in their scheduling criteria of exhibition and educational activities based on the experience we shared during these three years.
In the case of the Cultural Corporation of Talagante, we attended during these three years to the launching of their cultural infrastructure, we started working with the local artists at the Teatro Plaza, an old theater in front of their Main Square and later we relocated at the newly opened “Centro Cultural de Talagante”, where two years later, already exists a regular calendar with all kind of shows and besides, permanent educational activities that have given life to this new space for local culture.
In the case of Melipilla, in 2016 huge difficulty presented, that was, not having an exhibition or working space for the management team of the territory. In 2017 we accompanied the awaited inauguration of the “Teatro Serrano”, space that solved this need, and has generated a close bond with the community, an artistic content calendar that is up to the new infrastructure and an important space for local artists to participate.
In the case of the Casa de la Cultura Anselmo Cádiz of El Bosque, we collaborated for three years with the strengthening of their groups and permanent theater workshops, achieving a high-level communication and management relation with the people in charge of the direction and coordination of the activities of this space. Today, “Casa de la Cultura Anselmo Cádiz de El Bosque”, counts with a stable cast of young people and maintains a permanent schedule on its exhibition room, an extremely established space for the residents of the district.
Finally, in the case of the Teatro Regional del Maule, its growth has been exponential since the year 2014, achieving an important consolidation of its internal management, permanent programs, its own productions, important management of public and private resources, long term strategic alliances and connection with different districts of the region, which is strengthened by the inauguration of the Teatro Municipal de Chillán with which they have been able to develop a circulation corridor between the regions VII and VIII.
In each one of these territories a program was implemented, as a closing landmark, that links artists that were present in the locality during 2016 and 2017, as well as a selection of shows of the Santiago Off International Festival 2018. On the other hand, with the municipality of Til-Til, the Corporacion de Cultura y Patrimonio of Independencia, the Museo de La Ligua, and the Municipality of Quillota in 2018 the programmatical coverage was widened and specific diagnosis activities were made, that allowed in 2019 to generate a more specific planning for them.
In 2018, adds to RED, the municipality of Algarrobo, replacing que Municipality of San Felipe (with whom we develop a community project of collaborative art through other management programs). In this new territory initial activities are scheduled that generate a first approach and bond with the community.
So that is how the network implemented during 2018 a total of 37 artistic activities: 1 launch landmark, 14 mediation and training activities, 14 performances, 2 student leaders meetings and 6 managers and relevant cultural agents meetings, reaching a total of 1.570 direct beneficiaries giving closure to the first big work phase.
The sanitary crisis forced all cultural institutions of the country to take a deep turn in participation formats and structure and circulation of artistic content, our network was not oblivious to this and after having a January with a face to face extension schedule of the Santiago Off Festival, two months later we couldn’t get around or leave our houses. That couldn’t be an impediment to continue developing the objectives we had set ourselves, there was a lot to lose. The territorial partners began to allocate their scheduling funds even to social aid for artists in their localities with the desire that those who were creative agents wouldn’t feel helpless in such a terrible scenario for performing arts. In 2020 we reinvent ourselves, but with the same spirit of previous years we were able to:
- Link artist with territories through the making of original audiovisual capsules that were based on conversations with relevant agents of the territories or from the same network partners with the artists.
- To put out theater, dance and contemporary circus plays throughout the network this time Online.
- Deliver educational content and online specialization of different nature and besides, parallelly, to all network partners, which it would have been impossible to do face to face.
- Be sustainable for another year as RED with the support of permanent online working tables.
This way, the network has been implementing during 2020 a total of 39 online activities: 1 launch assembly, 13 original audiovisual capsule creations for each territory and its transmissions, 13 transmissions of online plays, 2 seminars about mediation and marketing, 6 working tables, 2 contemporary dance workshops, 1 speech workshop, 1 technical advice, hoping to close with around 5.000 direct beneficiaries.
(2018-2019) beginning second phase – Focalization in specific audiences
During 2019 we initiate what we call the second phase of our RED, adding a new region in the Norte Grande of the country (Atacama) and implementing an extremely specific circulation program for each participating territory, laying the groundwork of what will be our audience management plan for 2020.
This is how to this date the circulation program has developed in the district of Paine. It centers specifically in the student community, with specific performances for students during school hours, mediations that incorporate new technologies (conversation forums via Instagram and mediation activities #EsteEsMiProfe), a student meeting and a teacher training course. Also, in the district of Independencia, the cultural day “Conexión. Encuentro Artístico en Independencia” is produced, that gathers an entrepreneur fair of the district, the open exhibition of the staging workshop “Teatro del Calle y Cuerpo” directed by Mauricio Barría from La Difunta Teatro company and the accompaniment of the staging by “Familia Bombo Trio” band.
Soon, it will develop in the district of Til-Til a program that strengthens the scheduling of big format plays (Demasiado Cortas las Piernas, Pareidolia and La Súper Familia) as well as a guided route around the recently opened Centro Cultural; in Quillota it will developed a program focused on young people related to artistic activities, presenting Kadogo, Niño Soldado and Painecur, as well as a stage management workshop; in Algarrobo, the activities will take place at the municipal gym, focusing in a family audience, putting emphasis in children and elderly people, considering recreational workshops for both of this audience segments during winter holydays; in La Ligua it will develop a program that will strengthen literature and theater with the plays “Los Poetas Bajaron del Olimpo” and “El Golpe” that will go with mediation activities corresponding to poetry and theater workshops. This will be the closing year for the district of La Ligua and our partner the Museo Municipal de La Ligua, since it’s a public law entity, the central organization has requested to reduce its implementation programs due to a municipal budget crisis. Finally in the third region an assembly of local artists will be implemented in Copiapó as a way of an initial linking with the artistic community and the performance of “Los Niños del Winnipeg” in Diego de Almagro.
This way, the network will carry out during 2019 a total of 38 artistic activities: 1 launch landmark, 12 mediation activities, 14 performances, 1 student leaders meeting, 1 local manager artists meeting, 1 teacher training course and 8 training activities, hoping to have around 2.000 direct beneficiaries.
(2016-2017) RED INTERREGIONAL – integration of regions and impact in the community
As an evaluation of the implementation of the model’s first year, we realize that it’s necessary to ask ourselves how to continue without promoting a paternalist or cultural colonization link in the communities. As an answer, the 2017 the planning considers a strong perspective in the professionalization of local artists and relevant agents of each zone, new activities are added appended to the artistic circulation and education such as the student leaders meeting “Mi territorio, mi cultura”, meetings with local artists and the meeting of intercommunal management, with excellent implication results of communities in the project.
In this second version 2017, the same districts of the RM participate, adding San Felipe, La Ligua and Quillota in the V region and the link with the Teatro Regional del Maule, through which Talca and Parral were intervened in the VII region. The same schedule methodology was used for the RM districts, this time with the selection of artists of the festival’s 2017 version and promoted that the best evaluated programs of RED 2016 were implemented in the V and VII region, this way, we were also able to complete a circulation route for called artists that considered a first metropolitan year and a second year of national itinerary.
In RED 2017, a total of 15 performances, 15 workshops with the participation of 15 companies, 1 student leaders meeting, 1 local artist meeting and 1 management meeting were made, reaching a total of 1.760 direct beneficiaries. The evaluation of this second year is positive and gives us new supplies to work through a closest contact with the communities.
(2015-2016) RED METROPOLITANA – promoting networking
The “Red de Extensión of Santiago Off” began in the year 2016, trying to generate a decentralization alternative for residents of 6 peripheral districts of the RM and a national circulation platform for artistic groups. Apart from developing, implementing and consolidating a network model with projection and continuity in time among municipal institutions, outstanding cultural agents, artists and citizens. In this version, 6 districts of the RM participated: El Bosque, Independencia, Melipilla, Paine, Talagante, Til Til.
The schedule methodology was made through an open calling to selected artist in the official calendar of the Santiago Off Festival 2016, with whom it was shared a general diagnosis delivered by each district, calling them to make a proposal that considered the circulation of their shows and their training and mediation activities for each territory in particular.
This proposal also had to consider the participation of 3 groups of one or more disciplines, so the artists had to pair up to be able to carry it out. This way, it was not just promoting the circulation of professionals of the sector, but also the network within the community of performing arts.
Finally, 18 companies of theater, dance, circus and music were selected who were linked to management teams of each district so, altogether, they could discuss and elaborate a final planning, which considered 3 performances and 3 educational workshops connected to each locality. A total of 18 performances and 18 workshops were made that reached 1.200 direct beneficiaries.
